The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is a diploma granted to high school students in Ontario who successfully complete the required credits and meet other graduation requirements. It is recognized by universities and colleges worldwide.

Yes, a visa or study permit is required if you are an international student studying on-campus at Thornhill High School in Canada.

No, a visa or study permit is not required if you are studying online from outside Canada.

Thornhill High School offers both options:

  1. On-campus study in Canada: International students must obtain a study permit and, if applicable, a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

  2. Online study from abroad: No visa or study permit is needed since you are not entering Canada.

Students aiming to earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and seeking credit for courses completed at an international high school must submit an Equivalent Credit Assessment Application. This process enables our Guidance Team to place students appropriately within the Ontario education system, ensuring a smooth transition and avoiding the repetition of prerequisite material. Once the Equivalent Credit Assessment is completed, students are expected to fulfill all remaining OSSD requirements through an Ontario high school.

Important Note: Without an Equivalent Credit Assessment, courses completed at a school outside of Ontario will not be recognized or counted toward the OSSD.

Yes, students must:

  • Complete 40 hours of community involvement.

  • Pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or complete the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC).
